The Benefits of DI
Throughout the DI Challenge Experience, students develop:
DI Changes Lives: hear from those involved in this impactful program:
DI Teams may be managed by any adult (ages 18+) who would like to create the next generation of innovative thinkers and leaders.
Team Managers are often teachers, school staff, parents, and/or community volunteers.
GETTING STARTED:
The Basic Steps to starting your own DI Team(s)
STEP 1:
Assemble a Team
2-7 Students + 1-2 Adult Team Managers
Can be from ANYWHERE! Since teams are meeting virtually, all students do NOT need to be from the same school or community.
You ALSO need to recruit one adult volunteer to serve as an APPRAISER.
Your APPRAISER will attend a training, and volunteer at the Regional Tournament. After they attend training, they should be able to provide some insight on tournament-day to the team!
STEP 2
Purchase a Team Number from Destination Imagination, Inc.
When you create your account and purchase a Team Number, you will receive digital access to all program materials, activities to run with the team, and copies of the seven Team Challenges.
Cost: $165
*Each Team Manaager must also have a Background Check, as required by DI HQ. Background Checks offered via DI HQ are $25/person, and if your school district / organization has a background check system already in place, you can contact DI HQ to see if your verification meets their requirements.
STEP 3
Select which Team Challenge the team will solve:
Scientific | Technical | Engineering | Fine Arts | Improv | Service Learning
Early Learning / Rising Stars (for grades K-2)
STEP 4
Prepare for the Regional Tournament!
Teams should host weekly meetings (in-person and/or virtual) where they practice Instant Challenges (provided in the Program Materials), participate in team-building / skill-building activities, and work on their solution for their Team Challenge solution.
Other tasks involved in preparing for the Regional Tournament include:
1) Fill out Tournament Data Forms (included in the Team Challenge document)
2) Submit online registration for the Regional Tournament (link below)
NOTE: Regional Tournament Registration closes annually on Feb. 10th
Regional Tournament Cost: $75 / Team
