Greetings! Welcome to the Michigan Creativity Association (MICA) Region 4 webpage! We would like to welcome all new Team Managers/Team Members and welcome back all of those who are returning to the program this year.

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you - I am Bryan Jennings, your Region 4 Director. I have over 15 years of experience serving in various capacities in the Creative Problem Solving Program. I may not have all of the answers, but I can help you get the information that you need to make this a successful season for your Team Members.

This season there will be several training opportunities for Team Managers (TM). MICA will be offering two TM trainings in different locations -

  • Waterford on December 2, 2017
  • Grand Ledge on November 18, 2017
Please mark your calendar and check the MICA website often for updates on available sessions. Valuable information will be provided to assist you in working with your team!

Back by popular demand...Team Member Trainings! There will be two (2) trainings for Team Members - keep checking the MICA website for details and register early, as space is limited. They will be held on the same dates as TM training.

We are always looking for more teams to participate in this fun and rewarding program. If you know of other schools/groups/individuals who may be interested, please let us know - we are happy to send out informational materials and/or arrange for a presentation to let them know how to jump in! Michigan Destination Imagination is growing, and it's a very exciting time!

The Region 4 Tournament Date:

  • March 3, 2018
  • Mona Shores High School,
  • 1121 Seminole Road, Norton Shores (Muskegon)

Tournament Registration will open November 1, and will close Jan 15, 2018. When you are ready to register, here is what you need to know:

  • • Each team participating in the Region 4 Tournament is required to provide one volunteer Appraiser. This Appraiser must attend Appraiser training. The closest appraiser training is on February 3, 2018 at Mona Shores Middle School, 1700 Woodside Street, Norton Shores (Muskegon). This will certify them to act as an Appraiser at our tournament. Being an Appraiser is a two day commitment (one half day for training and one day for the tournament).

  • • In addition to Appraisers, Region 4 is also requesting volunteers to help out with various roles on tournament day. Please consider submitting a volunteer to assist us with our tournament needs.

  • • Each team moving on to the State Finals Tournament is required to provide a certified Appraiser. You may want to take this into account when recruiting your Appraiser. Please note that the State Tournament this year is April 14, 2018. It would be helpful for your team if the volunteer Appraiser that you recruit is available on that date, just in case you need them.

  • • Special Scheduling Requests: Last year, nearly 50% of the teams in the State requested some type of special consideration in scheduling their performance time. It is becoming nearly impossible to create a working schedule that accommodates this many requests. MICA asks for your help in suggesting to families that they keep the entire tournament day open and place a priority on all Team Members being available. Priority for scheduling requests will be given to: teams that compete in more than one Challenge and Team Managers who manage multiple teams. Please alert us to these and any other special scheduling requests, and we will try to make those accommodations; however, we cannot guarantee that every request will be honored. Thank you for your understanding!

It is shaping up to be terrific year to participate in DI - please let us know if you have questions, and let's get started on another fun filled DI season!
